Membranes which cover body surfaces, line its cavities and form protective sheets around organs fall into two major catagories. These are epithelial membranes (skin epidermis, mucosae, and serosae) and the connective tissue synovial membranes
|
Mucous
Commonly found underlaid by a connective tissue layer called the lamina propia,it is an epithelial sheet with underlying connective tissue. It protects the lubrication secretion absorption found in repsiratory tract and digestive tract.
Serous
Commonly found in lines internal ventral body cavities and covers their organs,a layer of simple squamous epithelium resting on a scant layer of fine connective tissue and produce a lubricating fluid that reduces friction, found in the inner layer of lungs.
Cutaneous
Commonly found covering the body's exterior and protects deeper body, and protects from external insults and water loss. Epithelial epidermis and connective tissue dermis, the skin top layer visible to us
Synovial
Connective tissue only lines fibrous capsules surrounding joints, lines bursar, lines tendon sheaths(lines cavities of synovial joints),is composed of connective tissue,Produces lubrication to decrease friction within the joint cavity.
